Fort Lauderdale beach hotels want to serve visitors on the sand

January 24th, 2013
The Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale

City tourists should be able to get food and drink delivered on the beach, say hotel and restaurant managers who would sell it to them.

Beach hoteliers told commissioners Tuesday that the city's beachfront won't be a truly world-class destination unless their patrons can get beach service — with or without alcohol on the menu.

"European travelers expect to be served on the beach," said Jim Oliver, general manager of the The Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale.

Commissioners appeared supportive of allowing the additional beach service, separating it out from a portion of the proposal that would permit the businesses to serve alcohol on the beach and allow other beach-goers to bring their own.

"That to me is a minor piece of the pie here," Mayor Jack Seiler said of the alcohol provision. "If we can enhance the experience for our tourists, that's what I want to look at."

Emporium Hotel Featured Hotel Review

November 14th, 2011
Emporium Hotel

The term 'eye for detail' has been followed to the enth degree in one of the most exquisitely luxe boutique hotels in Australia.

Nestled in the heart of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, minutes from shops, bars and restaurants, the 'Emporium Hotel' has been designed with the most finite details in mind.

'Emporium' owner, Francine John, enlisted master craftsmen, many locally based, to realise her design concepts inspired by the frangipani flower that is peppered throughout the property in various forms.

Located in a 'piazza' type precinct, the exquisite chandelier in the lobby takes my breath away but not as much as the personalised service offered by every staff member who crosses my path.

When you drive onto a property and the valet knows your name before you step out of the car, it still astounds me!

My multitude of luggage is carefully placed onto a trolley and the reception staff … Read the rest

Chicago’s swanky Elysian hotel to become a Waldorf Astoria

November 13th, 2011
Waldorf Astoria Chicago

Chicago's acclaimed Waldorf Astoria Chicago will no longer be an independent luxury boutique hotel, Crain's Chicago reports.

It's going to become a Waldorf Astoria, Hilton's luxury brand, the article says.

Crain's cites unnamed sources, but Hotel Check-In has heard the same information from sources. Other luxury brands from the U.S. and abroad had also visited the hotel to possibly run it.

The hotel will take a brand name because the other part of the news is that billionaire financier Sam Zell is buying the hotel for about $95 million, sources tell Crain's.

If true, the per-room price for the 188-room hotel would be $505,000 – the highest, Crain's says, for a Chicago hotel. Zell apparently expects to lift the hotel's value by bringing in Hilton to manage it and market it to its millions of customers.

The owner of the hotel, which opened during the recession two years ago and … Read the rest
