An indulgent package is on offer at Brisbane’s Emporium Hotel for a cool $12,000

Emporium Hotel

IT'S a holiday made in heaven for those with love in their hearts and even more cash in their wallets.

Brisbane's chic Emporium Hotel is offering what it calls "the ultimate indulgence package" – a day and night of luxury and pampering, plus the opportunity to have a piece of jewellery styled by acclaimed designer Margot McKinney.

All for a cool $12,000.

The Emporium Hotel is one of several five-star hotels, resorts and lodges in Queensland defying doom and gloom in the tourism sector by pitching ever more extravagant offers at the top end of the market.

"From the moment the hotel was built – with its interior decor, with its architecture, with the small number of rooms and higher-than-average level of staffing – we've really tried to pitch ourselves at the top", hotel general manager Peter Savoff said.

"We've always refused to compromise the standards and services … Read the rest

Emporium Hotel Featured Hotel Review

Emporium Hotel

The term 'eye for detail' has been followed to the enth degree in one of the most exquisitely luxe boutique hotels in Australia.

Nestled in the heart of Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, minutes from shops, bars and restaurants, the 'Emporium Hotel' has been designed with the most finite details in mind.

'Emporium' owner, Francine John, enlisted master craftsmen, many locally based, to realise her design concepts inspired by the frangipani flower that is peppered throughout the property in various forms.

Located in a 'piazza' type precinct, the exquisite chandelier in the lobby takes my breath away but not as much as the personalised service offered by every staff member who crosses my path.

When you drive onto a property and the valet knows your name before you step out of the car, it still astounds me!

My multitude of luggage is carefully placed onto a trolley and the reception staff … Read the rest

Spicers Balfour Hotel

New inner Brisbane retreat Spicers Balfour Hotel has been recognised as Queensland’s best New Tourism Development at the Queensland Tourism Awards.

Located in the fashionable inner-city suburb of New Farm, Spicers Balfour Hotel offers a unique and intimate environment for corporate and leisure travellers to retreat and relax only three kilometres from the heart of Brisbane.

Launched in September 2010, the property is the newest and the first city-based property for the Spicers Retreats, Hotels & Lodges group.

“It’s thrilling to have made such an impression in our first year,” Spicers Balfour Hotel general manager Matt Simpson said.

“As a new property we’ve had the opportunity to do things a bit differently and really make Spicers Balfour Hotel a ‘home away from home’ for our guests.

"It was important to us not to lose sight of our vision as a city retreat delivering luxurious, practical accommodation and an extensive range … Read the rest

Hotel offers home away from home

Spicers Balfour Hotel

THE weary traveller, especially one who must travel in his profession, appreciates the difference a boutique hotel can make to the well-being when on the road.

Spicers Balfour Hotel in New Farm, Brisbane, fits this bill perfectly. It’s more like a luxurious and classic Queensland home than a hotel.

With just nine rooms, its warm intimacy is felt the moment of entry. On our visit in February, fellow guests were a mix of couples and business people.

We saw this the moment after we’d settled into our luxurious room, checked out the Italian bed linen, and popped up to the roof-top bar for martinis and canapés, to find the interesting mix of guests all had the same refreshment needs as us.

Propped up at the bar overlooking the Story Bridge, watching the sun go down and waiting for the bridge to light up made us feel smug and gave us … Read the rest

Mantra Group keen on taking controlling stake of Oaks Hotels group

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

THE Mantra Group and its rivals are believed to be eyeing a controlling stake in Oaks Hotels and Resorts in a move that could scupper a $61 million takeover bid for the Brisbane-based accommodation provider by a Thai conglomerate.

Yesterday, Oaks told shareholders to take no action over Minor International's 35c per share cash offer, which values the business at $61m.

Oaks said the board was evaluating "several alternatives" and the directors would make a recommendation once they received Minor's bidder's statement.

According to sources, hospitality companies including the Mantra Group (previously known as Stella), French hotel giant Accor Hospitality, serviced apartment operator The Ascott and Amalgamated Holdings have all shown interest in buying a 36.4 per cent controlling stake in the company, which is being offered for sale by receivers PwC.

The holding was previously owned by the private companies of Oaks founder and former chief executive Brett Pointon, … Read the rest
