Marriott International’s, JW Marriott, celebrates the opening of its first hotel in Turkey, the JW Marriott Hotel Ankara under a management agreement with Ozkar Insaat A.S.

Tale of a True Renaissance: St. Pancras Hotel in London Re-Opens After 138 Years

Marriott Walnut Creek hotel for sale and is expected to draw buyers

The Walnut Creek Marriott is on the sales block, brokers said Monday, in a deal that could fetch $50 million or more for the downtown landmark.

Perched on North Main Street near Interstate 680, the iconic hotel is being offered for sale by a partnership headed by Patrick Nesbitt and his firm, Windsor Capital Group.

The 338-room hotel is expected to fetch a decent price in a market where hotels in good locations appear to be selling briskly.

"It's not a fire sale," said Norval Nelson, general manager of the Marriott Walnut Creek. "It all depends on whether they can realize a certain sales value, and if Mr. Nesbitt is willing to sell at that price."

A reasonable price for the hotel could be in the range of $150,000 a room, said Alan Reay, president of Irvine-based Atlas Hospitality Group, which tracks the California hotel market.

Hong Kong Gets the Tallest Hotel in the World

The Ritz Carlton Hong Kong became the tallest hotel in the world when it opened last week on top of the International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon.

Located over the 102nd and 118th floors The Ritz Carlton Hong Kong returns to Hong Kong after a break of about three years at a time when the tourism industry is facing the triple onslaught of soaring oil prices, unrest in the Middle East and more recently the 9-magnitude earthquake in Japan.

Simon Cooper, President Asia Pacific, Marriott International, the company that owns the Ritz Carlton brand, spoke to CNBC after the soft launch of its 16th property in Asia.

Marriott inks deal to operate two Abu Dhabi hotels

US hotel chain Marriott International has signed a management deal with Abu Dhabi’s Real Estate Group, a subsidiary of Bloom Properties, to manage two properties in the UAE capital.

The company will operate the 315-room Abu Dhabi Marriott Hotel and a 64-unit serviced apartment hotel, Marriott said in an emailed statement Tuesday.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The properties, which are scheduled to open in 2014, will form part of the 16,200 sq m Bloom Central development in Abu Dhabi and will swell Marriott’s UAE portfolio to nine hotels.

Marriott last week said it would open three hotels in Doha in the second quarter of 2011, in a bid to tap into Qatar’s growing tourism market.… Read the rest
